Barbados is getting ready to host one of the Caribbean tourism industry’s biggest gatherings once again.

The island has officially been selected as the host destination for the 45th edition of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s Caribbean Travel Marketplace, with the event set for May 2027.

The annual conference, widely regarded as the Caribbean’s premier tourism business event, brings together tour operators, wholesalers, airlines, hotel executives, tourism boards, travel advisors and industry decision-makers from around the world for two days of pre-scheduled meetings and networking sessions focused on Caribbean travel business.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 44th Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Antigua and Barbuda by Barbados Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill, who also currently serves as Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

“Caribbean Travel Marketplace remains the region’s premier tourism business event bringing together international tour operators, wholesalers, airlines, hospitality leaders and key decision makers from around the world,” Gooding-Edghill said during the announcement.

“Our selection is a powerful vote of confidence in Barbados, our tourism product, our people, infrastructure and our vision for the future of Caribbean tourism.”

A Return To Barbados

Barbados last hosted the event in May 2023, when tourism officials and hotel partners across the island used the conference to showcase the destination’s hotels, culinary scene, attractions and tourism product to buyers and travel professionals from major source markets.

That edition generated major visibility for Barbados across the regional tourism industry while bringing hundreds of delegates, hotel representatives and tourism executives to the island.

The 2027 edition is expected to once again place Barbados at the center of Caribbean tourism conversations for the week of the event, with hotels, restaurants, transportation providers and tourism stakeholders all expected to benefit from the influx of delegates and international partners.

“In 2027, we will welcome the world to experience first-hand, not only the warmth of our hospitality but also the depth of our culture, strength of our partnerships and the bold future we are building together in tourism,” Gooding-Edghill said.

A Major Event For Caribbean Tourism

Caribbean Travel Marketplace has become one of the most important annual events for the regional tourism industry, serving as the place where hotels, destinations and tourism companies conduct thousands of business meetings with global buyers.

The conference regularly attracts representatives from North America, Europe, Latin America and emerging international markets looking to expand Caribbean travel business.

Barbados officials say hosting the event again in 2027 is expected to create economic opportunities across multiple sectors of the tourism industry while strengthening the island’s international profile.

“Caribbean Travel Marketplace will create economic opportunities across our tourism ecosystem, elevate our global visibility, and provide an unmatched platform to showcase the very best of Barbados,” Gooding-Edghill said.

He added that Barbados plans to work closely with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association to create a conference that helps strengthen relationships with both traditional and emerging travel markets.

“In 2027, destination Barbados will not simply host the Caribbean, but we will work collaboratively with the CHTA to deliver a marketplace that will create new opportunities for growth and reposition the region to leverage new and existing relationships with buyers and key partners from traditional and emerging source markets to set the stage for the future of Caribbean tourism,” he said.

Tourism Leaders Join Barbados Delegation

The Barbados delegation attending this year’s Marketplace in Antigua included several senior tourism officials and private-sector leaders.

Among them were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Francine Blackman, Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association Chairman Javon Griffith, Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association CEO Ryan Forde, and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. CEO Andrea Franklin.

Gooding-Edghill also thanked Barbados tourism partners and industry stakeholders for their support during the selection process, saying their contributions helped secure the island’s successful bid to host the conference.

The minister also praised Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Minister Charles “Max” Fernandez and event organizers for hosting the 43rd and 44th editions of Caribbean Travel Marketplace.

Why It Matters For Barbados

Hosting Caribbean Travel Marketplace brings immediate tourism spending to the destination while also creating long-term marketing exposure for hotels and tourism businesses across the island.

During the conference, delegates typically participate in hotel tours, destination experiences, restaurant visits and networking events across the host country.

That gives Barbados another major platform to showcase its luxury resorts, boutique hotels, culinary offerings, beaches, rum experiences and expanding airlift network to travel professionals who directly influence Caribbean vacation bookings.

By the time May 2027 arrives, Barbados is expected to have several new and upgraded tourism projects in operation across the island, adding even more inventory and experiences for buyers and travel advisors to evaluate during the conference.

Tourism officials are already encouraging partners across the region to begin planning for the event.

Whether it’s a first visit to Barbados or a return trip for longtime Caribbean travel professionals, the island is preparing to put itself at the center of regional tourism business once again in 2027.
