MSC Cruises is adding a new destination.

MSC Cruises is expanding its private island footprint in The Bahamas with a new luxury destination called Sandy Cay, set to open in 2028 adjacent to its existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

The announcement comes as MSC continues to make a deeper push into the Caribbean market, one that kicked off in earnest with last year’s launch of MSC World America.

MSC is also moving another major ship, World Europa, to the Caribbean next year.

The new island is being positioned as a lower-density, more nature-focused complement to Ocean Cay, with a design centered on direct access to the shoreline and surrounding waters. MSC says the experience will prioritize a quieter environment and closer connection to the marine setting.

Full details on layout, capacity, and amenities have not yet been released. Early direction points to an experience built around swimming, snorkeling, and time on the beach, with fewer large-scale structures and a stronger emphasis on the natural environment.

Sandy Cay will operate alongside Ocean Cay rather than replace it, giving MSC two distinct private island experiences within the same destination area.

MSC’s Other Private Destinations

MSC’s private destination portfolio is currently anchored by Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas, located south of Bimini. The island features 8 beaches with different exposures to sun and wind, along with beachside dining pavilions, multiple bars, and evening programming including lighthouse light displays. The destination was developed as part of a broader environmental restoration effort, with ongoing coral and marine habitat projects in the surrounding waters.

Outside the Caribbean, MSC also operates calls to Sir Bani Yas Island in the United Arab Emirates on select itineraries. The destination combines dedicated beach areas for cruise guests with access to a wildlife reserve offering guided excursions.

More details on Sandy Cay are expected to be released ahead of its planned 2028 opening.
