Grenada is seeing a significant surge in cruise tourism, with the destination reporting 368,983 cruise passengers from January through December, a 17.5 percent increase year over year.

The growth marks one of the strongest performances for the island’s cruise sector in recent years, reinforcing Grenada’s position as a rising port of call in the southern Caribbean.

It’s also one of the highest growth rates in the wider Caribbean, according to data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

A Strong Year for Cruise Arrivals

The nearly 370,000 cruise passengers represent a clear acceleration for Grenada, with more ships and higher passenger volumes calling at the island throughout 2025.

That increase reflects both expanded itineraries from major cruise lines and growing interest in southern Caribbean routes, where ports like Grenada are seeing renewed demand.

Passenger totals have been trending upward across multiple months, with consistent gains rather than isolated spikes.

Why Grenada Is Drawing More Ships

Grenada’s appeal in the cruise sector continues to center on its mix of natural attractions and accessible experiences.

Cruise visitors can reach Grand Anse Beach within minutes of the port, one of the most popular stretches of sand in the Caribbean. Inland, excursions focus on waterfalls, rainforest hikes, and spice plantations — all within a short distance of St. George’s.

That combination makes it an efficient stop for cruise lines, where passengers can experience multiple sides of the island within a single day.

Port improvements and operational efficiency have also helped support the increase in calls, allowing Grenada to handle larger ships and higher passenger volumes.

Positioning in the Southern Caribbean

Grenada is benefiting from a broader shift toward southern Caribbean itineraries, particularly during the winter cruise season.

Lines are expanding routes that include ports like St. George’s, a place considered the Portofino of the Caribbean.

The result is a steady increase in both first-time cruise visitors and repeat passengers returning on different sailings.

What It Means for the Island

The rise in cruise arrivals is contributing to overall tourism growth, bringing more day visitors into local businesses, tour operators, and attractions.

Spending from cruise passengers supports restaurants, transportation providers, and excursion companies, particularly in and around the capital.

At the same time, the growth reflects a broader strategy to balance cruise and stayover tourism, with Grenada continuing to invest in both segments.

Momentum Heading Into 2026

With a 17.5 percent increase and nearly 370,000 cruise passengers, Grenada is entering 2026 with strong momentum in the cruise sector.

The upward trend suggests continued interest from cruise lines and travelers alike, as the island builds its profile as a key destination in the southern Caribbean.

It’s a clear sign that Grenada is gaining ground — not just as a place to visit, but as a regular stop on the region’s most in-demand itineraries.
