Rodney Bay is where the island of Saint Lucia gets its energy. The marina fills with boats. Restaurants line the waterfront. Music carries out from bars late into the night. Along Reduit Beach, chairs line the sand and water taxis cut across the bay all day. It’s one of the signature places in the region — where everything kind of comes together, where you can get a real taste of the island in a fun, accessible way.

The family-owned Bay Gardens Resorts has been part of that scene for years. Now it’s opening something different, right on the beach, with rooms now available starting June 1. 

A New Luxury Address in Rodney Bay

Bay Gardens Resorts is debuting Sapphire Sands Villas, a new beachfront property set directly on Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay Village. The opening is scheduled for June, adding a villa-style option to one of the island’s most active districts.

The property sits along the same stretch of sand that draws most of Rodney Bay’s daytime traffic. From the villas, you step onto the beach and into the middle of it.

This is the company’s first project built entirely around villa-style accommodations, and we just got a first look at the new interiors (above).

Villa Living, Steps From the Sand

Sapphire Sands includes nine beachfront villas with a total of 27 keys. Each villa can be configured as a one-, two-, or three-bedroom unit, which makes it workable for couples, families or small groups traveling together.

Inside, the layout is straightforward. Full kitchens come stocked for cooking. Living areas are large enough to spend time in without feeling like a hotel room. Bedrooms are separated to give privacy if you’re sharing the space.

Every villa has a balcony facing the water. Ground-floor units bring you closer, with select villas including private plunge pools positioned just off the beach. From there, it’s a short walk across the sand to the waterline.

You can stay inside, use your kitchen and pool, or walk straight onto Reduit Beach.

A New Restaurant With a Clear Identity

The property’s main dining venue is Kimchi & Kalaloo, a waterfront restaurant focused on Asian-Caribbean cooking.

The menu centers on local seafood and Korean barbecue, with dishes built for sharing. Tables face the water, placing you directly along the same stretch of beach that runs through Rodney Bay.

It’s a different direction from the usual mix of menus in this area — something new and fresh. 

Wellness and Fitness on Site

Sapphire Sands includes a full-service Moonstone Spa, with treatment rooms set back from the main beachfront area. There’s also a sunrise yoga pavilion positioned toward the water, along with a fitness center equipped for daily workouts.

The setup gives you quieter areas within a part of the island that tends to stay active throughout the day.

Butlers on Call 

Sapphire Sands Villas will also introduce a dedicated butler service, a first at this level for Bay Gardens Resorts.

The team was drawn from across the company’s existing properties, with staff stepping into new roles ahead of the opening. Training was handled by Mastering Excellent Service, a Jamaica-based hospitality firm, with a focus on villa-style service and direct guest interaction.

The program included live guest scenarios, with an emphasis on timing, communication and discretion. Early feedback during training pointed to a steady improvement in delivery, with guests responding positively to the service approach.

At the property, butlers will handle pre-arrival planning, in-villa check-in and day-to-day coordination during your stay. That includes arranging dining reservations, spa treatments and island activities, along with managing requests directly within the villa.

The service is structured around the villa experience, with staff assigned to support guests throughout their stay rather than through a central concierge desk.

Access to Five Resorts in One Stay

Guests at Sapphire Sands Villas are part of Bay Gardens Resorts’ “Stay at 1, Play at 5” program.

That means you can move between the company’s nearby properties and use their restaurants, bars and amenities during your stay. Transportation is handled by the resort, so getting between locations is simple.

The program also includes access to Splash Island Water Park, the floating obstacle course set just offshore on Reduit Beach.

In practice, you can spend one day at your villa, another at a different Bay Gardens property, and rotate between dining venues without leaving the network.

The All-Inclusive Option

Sapphire Sands Villas also offers an all-inclusive plan, which connects directly to that dine-around setup.

Instead of being limited to a single restaurant, the plan allows you to eat and drink across multiple Bay Gardens properties in Rodney Bay. That includes a range of cuisines and settings, from beachfront dining to marina-side restaurants.

You’re not tied to one dining room each night. You can move between locations depending on what you want that evening.

What You Actually Do Here

Days start on Reduit Beach. The water is typically calm, making it easy to swim for long stretches. Beach chairs fill steadily as the morning builds, with attendants setting up umbrellas along the sand.

You can stay close to your villa or walk further down the beach where bars and restaurants line the shoreline.

Lunch can be at the restaurant, back in your villa or at another Bay Gardens property through the dine-around program.

Afternoons bring more things to do. Water sports run along the bay, with jet skis and parasailing operating offshore. Boats remain anchored just beyond the swim area. Or you can try the floating water park.

Evenings center on Rodney Bay Village. The marina fills with diners, and restaurants stay busy well into the night. You can stay on property, use the dine-around program or prepare your own meal in the villa.

Things to Do Around Saint Lucia

Rodney Bay is just one part of the island.

A drive south takes you to Soufriere, home to the Pitons, the twin volcanic peaks that define Saint Lucia’s landscape. The area includes hiking trails, hot springs and the Sulphur Springs, where you can walk through the geothermal area and visit the mud baths — and visit a true drive-in volcano.

Waterfalls are part of the island’s draw as well. Toraille Waterfall is one of the most accessible, with water dropping into a pool where visitors can stand directly under the falls.

Snorkeling and diving trips run from multiple points on the island, including excursions that take you along the west coast to reefs and marine reserves.

Back in the north, catamaran cruises depart regularly, often including stops for swimming along the coastline.

You can keep your stay centered in Rodney Bay and still reach most of the island’s major sites within a day trip.

What to Know Before You Visit

Rodney Bay stays active, particularly when multiple cruise ships are in port. Reduit Beach sees steady traffic during the day, with water sports operators, vendors and beach bars all in operation.

If you want a quieter setup, booking a higher-floor villa or one slightly set back from the busiest section of the beach can make a difference.

Ground-floor villas with plunge pools give you direct access to the sand, but they also place you closest to foot traffic along the beach.

For dining, reservations at Kimchi & Kalaloo are likely to fill quickly once the property opens, especially in the evening. The dine-around program gives you backup options across the Bay Gardens network if tables are full.

Transportation from Hewanorra International Airport takes about 90 minutes by road, so arranging transfers in advance is worth it, particularly for late arrivals.

A New Option in the Center of the Island’s Activity

Bay Gardens Resorts has been operating in Saint Lucia for more than 30 years, with multiple properties concentrated in Rodney Bay. Sapphire Sands Villas adds a new format to that lineup, centered on beachfront villas with access to the same network of amenities.

You stay on Reduit Beach, with restaurants, bars and the marina within a short distance, and the rest of the Bay Gardens portfolio available throughout your trip.

You can spend the day on the sand, move between properties for dinner, or stay in your villa and use the space like a private residence.

Why June Works

June is one of the more practical times to visit the Caribbean.

The water is warm, with consistent conditions for swimming along Reduit Beach. You’re early in the summer travel window, before peak demand later in the season.

At Sapphire Sands, June also means everything is new. Rooms, pools, restaurants and public spaces are just opening, with the full property coming online for the first time.

Prices at Sapphire Sands 

They’re very good. I found room rates at Sapphire Sands starting at $401 beginning June 1 on the hotel website. That gets you a deluxe beachfront king room. It’s even lower — $334 — if you’re join the property’s rewards program. For a room with a pool, the rates are about $556 per night right now in early June.
