Hotel Tracker: You Can Stay in a Beachfront Cottage in St. Croix for $199 a Night Right Now

There’s a stretch of beach on the west end of St. Croix where small pastel cottages face directly onto the sand, a place where the rhythm of your stay is set by the water a few steps away. Right now, you can book one of them for $199 per night.

That rate is currently available for stays April 11–18 at Cottages by the Sea, a bungalow-style beachfront hotel just outside Frederiksted on the island’s west coast.

For a Caribbean beachfront stay during the spring travel window, that nightly price stands out, particularly for a property made up of individual cottages rather than standard hotel rooms.

The Hotel at a Glance
Cottages by the Sea is one of the most recognizable small hotels on St. Croix. The property has welcomed guests since 1947, when it first opened as a collection of seaside cottages along the island’s west coast.

The hotel sits directly on 500 feet of beachfront, with a layout designed around standalone cottages placed close to the water. The property includes 27 individual cottages, each with its own design and configuration.

Many of the cottages include full kitchens, furnished patios and ocean views. The accommodations range from studio-style units to larger cottages with multiple bedrooms, making the property suitable for couples, families and longer stays.

The setting is intentionally low-key. Instead of large resort buildings, guests move through garden paths between cottages, with the shoreline visible from much of the property.

What You Experience During the Stay
Most cottages open directly toward the beach, which means you can walk from your door to the sand in seconds.

The shoreline here is calm and swimmable, and the shallow water offshore makes it easy for snorkeling right in front of the property. Guests have access to complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas, along with snorkeling equipment, bicycles and kayaks provided by the hotel.

There are also two beachfront barbecue areas available for guests who want to cook outside, something many visitors take advantage of when staying for a week or more.

Because the cottages include kitchens, many travelers treat the stay as a beach house vacation. Grocery stores are a short drive away, and the outdoor grills and patios make it easy to prepare meals while facing the water.

The hotel does not operate a large resort restaurant or entertainment program. Instead, the focus is on direct beach access, quiet surroundings and private cottage accommodations.

Exploring the Frederiksted Area
The property is located just south of Frederiksted, one of the most historic towns in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Frederiksted is home to Fort Frederik, the red-brick Danish fort overlooking the waterfront, along with a long pier that attracts divers and cruise ships. The town’s waterfront also has small restaurants, cafés and beach bars that draw both locals and visitors.

A few minutes north of the hotel is Rainbow Beach, another popular stretch of sand known for calm water and beachside dining.

Staying on the west end of St. Croix also places you close to several of the island’s best snorkeling and diving areas, along with scenic coastal drives along the island’s western shoreline.

Why the $199 Rate Stands Out
Caribbean beachfront hotels frequently push well above the $300-per-night mark during the late winter and early spring travel window.

Seeing a $199 nightly rate for a beachfront cottage — particularly one with a kitchen and direct beach access — makes this one of the more compelling value stays currently available on St. Croix.
