A new route is adding another link in the Caribbean’s regional air network.

Sunrise Airways has launched new nonstop service between Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and Antigua, expanding intra-Caribbean connectivity and adding another gateway into Antigua and Barbuda.

The twice-weekly route connects Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo with V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The flights depart Santo Domingo at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, arriving in Antigua at 2:35 p.m., with the return flight leaving Antigua at 3:20 p.m.

On Saturdays, flights depart Santo Domingo at 9:00 a.m., arriving in Antigua at 10:35 a.m., with the return service leaving Antigua at 11:20 a.m.

The service is operated using Embraer ERJ140 regional jet aircraft, configured with a single cabin and seating for up to 30 passengers.

Strengthening Caribbean Connectivity

The new route forms part of Sunrise Airways’ ongoing expansion across the Eastern Caribbean, with Santo Domingo serving as a growing hub for the airline’s regional network.

The airline expanded its Eastern Caribbean operations in May 2024, with a focus on strengthening connections between Caribbean destinations that historically have had limited direct air links.

The Antigua route adds another option for travelers moving between the Eastern Caribbean and the Dominican Republic, while also providing additional onward connections through Santo Domingo.

Sunrise Airways officials say the route strengthens the airline’s evolving hub strategy in Santo Domingo, creating more seamless regional travel options and potential links to destinations across the Americas.

A Boost for Antigua’s Airlift

The new service also expands Antigua and Barbuda’s regional airlift as the destination continues to position itself as a connecting point within the Caribbean.

Antigua’s central location in the Eastern Caribbean makes it a natural gateway for regional travel, business and tourism, according to officials.

Recent investments at V.C. Bird International Airport, including approximately US$50 million in infrastructure upgrades, have also supported the destination’s strategy of attracting new airline service and expanding connectivity.
