The Dominican Republic’s largest annual tourism marketplace is coming back to Punta Cana next spring.

The Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (Asonahores) has announced the 2026 edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, scheduled for April 22–24 at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center. The event has long been considered the country’s premier tourism trade show and one of the Caribbean’s most influential business platforms.

DATE brings together Dominican suppliers — including hotels, tour operators and destination companies — with international buyers through pre-scheduled appointments and structured business rounds. The format is designed to generate future bookings, long-term contracts and new investment, with direct ripple effects across the national economy.

Tourism at a Defining Moment

Organizers framed the upcoming edition against the backdrop of continued tourism growth in the Dominican Republic.

Javier Tejada, first vice president of Asonahores, emphasized the importance of protecting the framework that has supported the sector’s expansion.

“It is important to care for the structures that have allowed this sector and our economy as a whole to flourish, as well as preserve the conditions of stability and legal certainty that allow us to remain competitive and attract foreign investment,” Tejada said.

He also pointed to ongoing national challenges that require continued progress, including land-use regulation, solid waste management and electricity supply. Addressing these issues, he said, will strengthen the country’s positioning as a destination and support broader economic development.

Within that context, DATE functions as a strategic business platform aligned with the long-term vision for Dominican tourism.

Diversification and New Market Focus

Beyond traditional sun-and-sand offerings, DATE 2026 will continue promoting diversification into specialized segments, including cultural tourism, adventure travel, religious tourism, sports tourism and the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector.

Organizers say the strategy is designed to strengthen competitiveness, open new source markets and attract additional investment across multiple niches.

Lendor, speaking on behalf of the organizing association, highlighted the country’s recent performance metrics.

“Record tourist arrival figures, which we are confident we will even surpass this year, once again demonstrate the strength of DATE as a platform for conducting business that drives this smokeless industry we all work for,” he said.

A New Visual Identity and Expanded Access

The 2026 edition will introduce a new graphic identity integrating Dominican culture, landscapes and gastronomy as expressions of national pride. Organizers also plan an updated event design incorporating technology aligned with current market trends.

The digital appointment platform — a core feature of recent editions — will remain in place, allowing participants to manage meetings efficiently. Organizers also confirmed expanded opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, with the goal of encouraging more inclusive growth across the tourism value chain.

A Cultural Showcase and Investment Catalyst

DATE 2026 will incorporate local artisans and Dominican cultural elements into the event experience, reinforcing national identity before international markets. Organizers position the event as both a business catalyst and a global showcase for the country’s tourism product.

The conference has the backing of the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism, along with key private-sector partners including Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort, Coco Bongo and Meliá Hotels International — underscoring continued public-private collaboration in support of the sector.

With Punta Cana once again hosting the gathering, DATE 2026 is expected to draw international buyers, investors and tourism executives from across the Americas and Europe, reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s role as a regional tourism leader and one of the Caribbean’s most active hospitality markets.

Hotel Tracker: A Puerto Rico Golf Resort for $271 Per Night

It’s always been one of the best golf resorts in Puerto Rico. Now, the Wyndham Palmas resort has a bigger ambition: to be one of the island’s best resorts, period. The new-look Wyndham Palmas will be reopening its doors this May following a “dramatic” transformation, Caribbean Journal has learned. The Wyndham Palmas Beach and Golf Resort is set to complete its renovation and reopen on May 18, 2023. The multimillion-dollar renovation comes after the resort was acquired by LionGrove last year, and covers everything from the rooms to a significant new culinary concept. (LionGrove also owns the El San Juan resort property in Isla Verde.) So what’s changed? All of the hotel’s 107 rooms and suites got a new look, with new amenities and a “boho chic” aesthetic. The resort also transformed its lobby into a “modern and trendy” space, according to the company, with sweeping ceilings and larger windows. Other additions include new landscaping, a cigar lounge and upgraded event space. The hotel will also be debuting a new eatery called Trova Coastal Kitchen, the brainchild of Top Chef competitors and celebrity chefs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth, in a concept helmed by Chef Julio Cartagena. "Chefs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth are true culinary masters, and their numerous accolades and awards are a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication. We invite you to experience the world-renowned cuisine and impeccable service of Trova Coastal Kitchen, led by our own local chef Julio Cartagena," says Chris Sariego, Senior Managing Director and COO of LionGrove.  The hotel is set in the Palmas Del Mar community in Puerto Rico, anchored by a pair of world-class golf courses: one designed by Gary Player, the other by Rees Jones. We found a $271 rate for Wyndham Palmas Beach and Golf Boutique Resort, April 5–9, a strong catch for a full-service resort inside the Palmas del Mar community in Humacao on Puerto Rico’s east coast. The rate is listed on Google Hotels’ platform. Expect the usual add-ons at checkout, including taxes and any nightly resort […]
