Mérida’s Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport is posting the fastest growth rate among Mexico’s major airports to start the year.

The airport, known by its code MID, handled 357,388 total passengers in the most recent reporting period, up from 316,481 in the same period a year earlier — a 12.9 percent increase.

That makes Mérida the country’s fastest-growing airport by percentage growth, underscoring the Yucatán capital’s continued rise as both a tourism and business destination.

Double-Digit Domestic Growth

The bulk of the increase is coming from domestic routes.

Domestic traffic climbed from 278,728 passengers to 315,955, a 13.4 percent jump year-over-year. That growth reflects stronger connectivity between Mérida and major Mexican cities, along with rising demand from domestic leisure travelers.

Mérida has increasingly positioned itself as an alternative to Mexico’s more traditional beach hubs, drawing visitors for its colonial architecture, culinary scene and proximity to cenotes and archaeological sites.

International Traffic Also Rising

International passenger volume also expanded.

MID recorded 41,433 international passengers, up from 37,753 the previous year, representing a 9.7 percent increase.

While international traffic remains a smaller share of overall volume compared to domestic travel, the steady rise suggests expanding interest from the United States and other markets in the Yucatán Peninsula beyond Cancún.

A Broader Yucatán Shift

The airport’s performance reflects broader momentum in Mérida’s tourism profile. The city has seen increased hotel development, expanded airlift and growing recognition as a cultural and culinary center.

At 357,388 total passengers for the period, the nearly 13 percent overall growth rate positions MID as one of Mexico’s most dynamic air gateways right now — and a sign that demand for Mérida continues to accelerate.
