Disney Cruise Line is set to make its debut in the Dominican Republic, with confirmed arrivals scheduled for Puerto Plata between November and December, according to Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) executive director Jean Luis Rodríguez.

The news marks a notable milestone for the country’s fast-growing cruise sector — and another sign of Puerto Plata’s rising profile as one of the Caribbean’s most important ports.

Indeed, the Dominican Republic’s record-breaking visitor arrival numbers were buoyed in large part by a huge surge in cruise passenger visits.

Rodríguez said the achievement was the result of a long-term strategy that included a steady presence at key global cruise industry gatherings such as Seatrade Cruise Global and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), along with direct meetings with cruise lines and port operators.

“Since our first participation at Seatrade in 2021, when we held exploratory meetings with major cruise lines, we committed to creating the port, operational and security conditions required by a company like Disney,” Rodríguez said. “Today, that vision is beginning to become reality.”

A Major Win for Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata has become one of the Dominican Republic’s most active cruise destinations in recent years, driven in large part by new infrastructure and an increasingly refined passenger experience.

Rodríguez said Apordom, working in coordination with the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism, focused on improvements designed to meet the standards of a family-focused cruise brand like Disney.

That work included upgrades to port infrastructure, stronger operational standards, and enhancements to the overall guest experience in Dominican ports.

“The arrival of Disney Cruise Line is a sign of confidence in our ports, in the security of the destination, and in the institutional capacity of the Dominican state to meet international standards,” Rodríguez said.

Part of a Bigger Cruise Strategy

Rodríguez said Disney’s upcoming calls are part of a broader push to strengthen the Dominican Republic’s position in the global cruise market — including attracting new routes, diversifying cruise destinations across the country, and keeping Dominican ports competitive, safe and efficient.

He added that each new cruise call represents an opportunity for economic development, job creation and continued momentum for the country’s tourism sector.

The confirmed Disney arrivals between November and December add another high-profile name to a port that has quickly become one of the Caribbean’s most closely watched cruise success stories.
