There’s something especially satisfying about leaving Montréal in February and landing a few hours later in Nassau, where the air is warm, the light is sharper and the water is already doing that impossible Bahamian shade of blue.

That trip just got easier.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation today welcomed the inaugural nonstop Porter Airlines flight from Montréal to Nassau, launching new seasonal service that links Quebec directly to the capital of The Bahamas.

The first flight arrived February 5, strengthening airlift from one of Canada’s most important source markets right in the heart of peak winter travel season, and adding another convenient option for travellers looking for a straightforward winter sun escape.

Porter launched new service from Toronto as well last year.

Why This Flight Is Important

The Montréal route is a practical win: more seats, more flexibility, and one more direct connection for travellers who want to get from winter to the beach without adding a stop along the way.

Canada has long been a strong market for The Bahamas, and Quebec in particular remains a key part of that story. Seasonal service like this tends to matter most when it arrives at the right moment, and February is exactly when demand is at its highest.

Porter Is Different

Part of the appeal here is also the Porter experience itself. The airline has built a loyal following in Canada for its polished, easygoing onboard product, including complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware, plus premium snacks that feel a step above the usual domestic flight routine. On this route, it’s a comfortable, no-fuss way to get from Montréal to Nassau, with the kind of small details that make the flight feel like the start of the trip, not just the part you have to get through.

What The Bahamas Is Saying

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Chester Cooper, said the new flight reflects the destination’s continued focus on strengthening airlift from Canada.

“The commencement of Porter Airlines’ nonstop service from Montréal to Nassau reflects our continued focus on strengthening airlift from Canada,” Cooper said. “Quebec is an important market for The Bahamas, and this direct connection makes it even easier for Canadian travelers to experience our beaches, culture, and warm Bahamian hospitality.”

Director General Latia Duncombe also emphasized the strategic value of the service, pointing to the steady interest The Bahamas continues to see from the Canadian market.

“The introduction of Porter Airlines’ nonstop Montréal–Nassau service adds capacity and reflects ongoing interest from the Canadian market,” Duncombe said. “Expanding options for travellers supports steady growth while reinforcing Montréal’s role as a key gateway to The Bahamas.”

The Bigger Picture for Canadian Travel to The Bahamas

With nonstop service now available from multiple Canadian cities, The Bahamas continues to build out its winter connectivity, keeping Nassau firmly in the mix for travelers who want a quick, warm-weather getaway just a few hours from home.

The equation is simple: fewer connections, less airport time, and more time where you actually want to be — on Cable Beach, downtown Nassau, or on a boat headed out toward the Exumas.
