Bermuda has named new leadership to the Bermuda Tourism Authority Board, a move that comes as the island continues to position tourism as a central pillar of its economy.

Bermuda’s Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, Owen Darrell, confirmed two appointments this week, including a new chairman and an additional board member.

William “Billy” Griffith Appointed Chairman

William “Billy” Griffith has been appointed Chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Authority Board after serving as Acting Chairman since 2025.

Griffith brings more than four decades of experience in tourism across Bermuda, the wider Caribbean, and international markets. His background includes senior leadership roles focused on destination development, governance, and tourism strategy, with an emphasis on long-term planning and industry coordination.

His formal appointment signals continuity in leadership at the BTA as Bermuda navigates evolving travel demand, airlift dynamics, and destination positioning in a competitive regional landscape.

Shannah Butterfield Named Board Member

Shannah Butterfield has been appointed to the Bermuda Tourism Authority Board for a three-year term.

Butterfield brings more than 20 years of senior human resources experience spanning both the public and private sectors. Her background includes organizational leadership, workforce development, and governance support, areas that intersect directly with tourism’s role as one of Bermuda’s largest employers.

Her appointment adds additional operational and people-focused expertise to the board at a time when talent development and retention remain critical issues for destinations across the Caribbean.

Strengthening the Bermuda Tourism Authority

According to the Ministry, the appointments are intended to reinforce the BTA’s governance capacity and industry insight as Bermuda advances its tourism strategy.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority oversees destination marketing and tourism development efforts for the island, working alongside government and private-sector partners. Board leadership plays a central role in guiding long-term priorities, fiscal oversight, and alignment with national tourism objectives.

The new appointments take effect immediately
