Sonesta is adding a new hotel in Curacao.

Sonesta has announced the execution of a deal for a new Sonesta Hotel in Curaçao, marking the company’s latest expansion in the Dutch Caribbean.

The newest International Hotels Corporation hotel will be located near Jan Thiel Beach, on the southeastern coast of the island, with access to Willemstad. The property is expected to officially join the Sonesta portfolio in the early second quarter of this year.

The move represents Sonesta’s return to Curaçao, where the company has operated hotels during multiple periods but not in the last decade.

“This deal marks Sonesta’s most recent foray into Curaçao and is reflective of our broader commitment to continued expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s executive vice president and president of franchise and development. “We are excited to expand Sonesta’s footprint in the beautiful island of Curaçao, expanding the portfolio’s strength and brand awareness in a highly sought-after destination.”

While specific details about the hotel’s room count, amenities, and brand positioning have not yet been released, the Jan Thiel area has become one of Curaçao’s most active hotel and residential corridors, known for its beach clubs, dining scene, and proximity to snorkeling and dive sites. The area has also seen increased development activity in recent years, particularly among lifestyle and resort-style properties.

The addition of a new Sonesta Hotel comes as Curaçao continues to see steady growth in tourism demand, driven by increased airlift from North America and Europe, expanding hotel inventory, and continued investment in the island’s hospitality infrastructure. Curaçao has positioned itself as a year-round destination, with a diversified visitor mix and a strong appeal to both leisure travelers and longer-stay guests.
