Passenger traffic at Puerto Rico’s main air hub in San Juan saw a steep decline in December, according to new data from ASUR, which manages Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

Total passenger traffic in December was 1.234 million, a 4.2 percent decline compared to the same month in 2024.

That was the single-biggest reduction in passenger traffic of any month for the airport last year.

For the year, the airport still saw 3 percent growth in 2025, with total passenger traffic of 13.643 million.

That number was largely driven by a significant increase in passenger traffic from international destinations — that is, not from within the United States.

Indeed, international traffic grew by 12 percent last year, compared to just 1.8 percent for the domestic market.

That has been carried by new airlift from places like South America and Spain, among others.
