Norwegian Cruise Line’s Great Stirrup Cay Is Getting a Lagoon Pool, a Beach Club, and Two Swim-Up Bars

Norwegian Cruise Line is reshaping what a private-island day looks like in the Bahamas, and the first phase of that transformation is now coming into focus at Great Stirrup Cay.

Newly released images show a destination built around scale and flexibility, anchored by a massive new pool complex designed to serve families, adults, and everyone in between — all with easier access thanks to new infrastructure across the island.

The Big Addition

The centerpiece of the upgrade is Great Life Lagoon, a 1.4-acre heated pool area that is now one of the largest features on the island. The pool includes a beach-style entry that gradually slopes into the water, leading into a dedicated splash zone with water features for younger guests. Elsewhere, adults can settle into 2 swim-up bars positioned to keep traffic moving without crowding the family areas.

Private cabanas surround the pool, offering shaded seating and direct views of both the lagoon and the ocean beyond. The layout is intentionally spread out, designed to absorb high guest volumes while still giving visitors room to choose quieter or more social pockets throughout the day.

For Families

Just steps from the main pool is Splash Harbor, a complimentary kids splash pad built specifically for younger cruisers. The close proximity allows families to move easily between spaces without splitting up or committing to one zone for the entire day.

To streamline the arrival experience, Norwegian Cruise Line has also added a new Welcome Center along with an expanded tram system, making it easier for guests to move around the island without long walks or congestion near peak arrival times.

For Adults

Guests looking for a more controlled, adults-only setting now have access to the new Vibe Shore Club. Available via an all-day pass, the area features private cabanas, a dedicated bar, and a quieter beachfront setting separated from the main pool scene. It is designed as an alternative rather than an upgrade — a space for guests who want less activity without giving up comfort or service.

What’s Coming Next

The current enhancements are only part of a broader redevelopment plan. Norwegian Cruise Line has confirmed that Great Tides Waterpark will debut in the summer of 2026, dramatically expanding the island’s activity offerings.

The waterpark will feature 19 total waterslides, anchored by the Tidal Tower with 8 slides, including the tallest in the complex. Planned attractions range from high-speed racing slides and twisting tube rides to body slides built for more extreme drops. Select slides will include conveyor belts to transport rafts uphill, reducing wait times and physical strain.

Additional features will include a nearly 800-foot dynamic river, a 9,000-square-foot splash zone for kids, and Cliffside Cove, which will introduce cliffside jumps and racer slides — a first for a cruise-line private island.

Private islands have become one of the most competitive fronts in Caribbean cruising, and Norwegian Cruise Line is clearly positioning Great Stirrup Cay as a destination capable of handling scale without sacrificing choice. The company expects to welcome more than one million guests to the island in 2026 across 17 ships, including newer vessels like Norwegian Aqua and the upcoming Norwegian Luna.

The strategy is straightforward: more capacity, more defined spaces, and more reasons for guests to treat a private-island call as a full destination day rather than a short beach stop.

Great Stirrup Cay is featured on a wide range of Norwegian Cruise Line itineraries in the Caribbean, with the company projecting more than one million guests will visit the private island in 2026 across 17 ships.

Among the vessels calling at Great Stirrup Cay is Norwegian Aqua, which is currently sailing 7-day Caribbean itineraries from Florida through October 2027, with stops that include destinations in the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands. The island will also welcome Norwegian Luna, the brand’s next new ship, which is set to debut in March 2026 and will operate 7-day Caribbean voyages from April 2026 through October 2026, visiting the same mix of Caribbean destinations.

Access to Great Stirrup Cay is included as part of these itineraries, with general island amenities available to all guests, while experiences such as private cabanas and the Vibe Shore Club are offered as optional upgrades.
