How Virgin Voyages Is Taking Its Entertainment to the Next Level

Booked is headed for land.
Booked is headed for land.

The energy around Virgin Voyages has always come from the way it treats entertainment — not as a side offering, but as the heartbeat of the voyage. Now that heartbeat is traveling beyond the ship itself.

Virgin Voyages is debuting a new original production aboard Scarlet Lady while launching an entertainment initiative that brings its shows to land-based theaters and Virgin Hotels.

It all begins with Booked, the newest Virgin Voyages production premiering now on Scarlet Lady. The show is already being developed for a land debut in 2026.

At the same time, Virgin Voyages is expanding its signature celebration, Scarlet Night, to Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and Virgin Hotels Shoreditch next year. For First Mates, this is a direct confirmation that the product they sell doesn’t just work at sea — it belongs on the same stage as the best entertainment on land.

Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu framed it directly, noting that the combination of strong commissions, no NCFs, refreshed ships and a slate of new entertainment makes the line more compelling than ever. The company’s best-selling 5-5-4 itinerary pattern onboard Scarlet Lady continues to surge, driven by a customer base that sails, returns, and then returns again. Virgin Voyages reports a 30 percent repeat rate, one of the highest in the cruise industry, with many Sailors rebooking before they even leave the ship. Entertainment is the catalyst behind that loyalty — and when Sailors rebook onboard, First Mates effectively start earning their next commission before the current sailing ends.

Scarlet Lady, now sailing year-round from Miami with alternating five- and four-night itineraries to Bimini, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Puerto Plata, has been rebuilt for this moment. The ship recently completed its second major evolution, underscoring Virgin Voyages’ commitment to constant reinvention. The latest updates include 24 redesigned Seriously Suites, a new collection of VIP cabanas, and Lucky Lotus, the Chinese-inspired restaurant that debuted in late 2024 with wok-fired dishes and dim sum. Combined with a brand-new entertainment slate led by Booked and the contemporary myth retelling Persephone, Scarlet Lady now carries more to talk about, more to sell, and more reasons for Sailors to return.

At the center of Virgin Voyages’ creative push is No Ceilings Entertainment, led by Kim Willecke, Phil Shaw and Dennis Jauch.

Their work on Booked blends dance, acrobatics and modern cabaret into a production crafted to rival major land-based performances. No Ceilings is one of several groups joining the advisory board of Screw It, Let’s Do It Productions, the new Virgin Voyages entertainment label named after Sir Richard Branson’s signature phrase.

The board also includes industry figures like Jenny Gersten, Artistic Director of New York City Center, and Eva Price, a three-time Tony Award-winning producer.

Supporting all of this is Virgin Voyages’ new 30,000-square-foot rehearsal studio in Orlando, a purpose-built creative facility with 10 expansive studios, costume and wardrobe production, collaborative spaces, and full-scale replicas of onboard venues like The Red Room and The Manor. Every show is workshopped, refined and rehearsed here before Sailors ever see it — a process that feeds the brand’s consistently high satisfaction scores.
