Spirit Airlines Has New Nonstop Service to Belize — And These Are the Top Spots to Explore
Spirit Airlines has expanded its Caribbean network with the official launch of its new nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Belize City, a route that operated its inaugural flights this weekend. The airline is now flying three times weekly to Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, with service on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The new route becomes the only nonstop service connecting Fort Lauderdale and Belize City, strengthening Spirit’s footprint at its hometown airport and bringing its total number of international destinations served from FLL to 24 — the most of any carrier operating from the airport.
“Belize is a beautiful and adventure-packed getaway for travelers looking to explore diverse natural landscapes, historical sites and world-class water excursions at an unmatched value,” said Andrea Lusso, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “Adding Belize City to our international route map is a great win for our Guests, and we thank the airport and the community for such a warm welcome to this one-of-a-kind destination.”
The launch opens new access for travelers nationwide: Guests across 19 U.S. cities can now reach Belize City via one-stop connections through Fort Lauderdale. It also marks the latest expansion in a busy year for Spirit’s Caribbean and Central America growth, following new service to Key West and preceding the carrier’s upcoming Fort Lauderdale–Grand Cayman route, set to begin Dec. 4.
Belize tourism officials say the added capacity comes at a moment of rising visitor interest.
“Spirit’s new nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Belize City is a welcome addition that makes visiting Belize easier than ever for travelers across the U.S.,” said Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations. “As a unique blend of Central American and Caribbean influences, Belize offers vibrant cultural experiences, warm hospitality and only-here adventures that range from reef to rainforest. This inaugural flight represents another milestone in expanding our reach, and we look forward to welcoming Spirit’s Guests.”
Where to Go in Belize Right Now
Hopkins
Hopkins mixes a long stretch of calm shoreline with one of Belize’s most vibrant cultural scenes. It’s the heart of Garifuna music and food, with beach roads lined by small cafés, drum circles after dark, and easy access to both reef snorkeling and jungle adventures along the coast.
Placencia
Placencia is a peninsula built for slow, beautiful days: soft beaches, quiet water, and a village filled with beach bars and open-air restaurants. It’s the gateway to the Silk Cayes and some of Belize’s best snorkeling, all wrapped in a relaxed, walkable atmosphere that feels instantly welcoming.
San Ignacio
San Ignacio sits in the Cayo District’s rainforest, where rivers, caves and Maya sites shape every part of the experience. Travelers come for ATM Cave, wildlife encounters, and the hilltop Maya ruins — all connected by a lively town with markets, cafés and a warm inland vibe. But the best things are almost certainly the pupusas.
Ambergris Caye
Ambergris Caye is Belize’s classic island escape, home to lively San Pedro and fast access to the Belize Barrier Reef. Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley are minutes away by boat, and the island’s beach bars, waterfront restaurants and easygoing pace make it the perfect base for reef-focused days.
