The Latest Caribbean Hotel Numbers Are a Mixed Bag

The latest Caribbean hotel data were something of a mixed bag in October, according to a new report from hotel analytics firm STR. 

Hotel occupancy fell 1.3 percent year by year to 52.3 percent, according to the report. 

That was accompanied by a 0.4 percent increase in average daily rates to $249.70 and a 0.9 percent decline in revenues per available room. 

Those numbers were actually somewhat promising considering the downward impact of last month’s Hurricane Melissa. 

For the year, hotel occupancy in the Caribbean is down by 1.4 percent to 63.3 percent overall, with rates up 1.8 percent to $342.40 and revenues up slightly by 0.4 percent to $216.77. 

STR’s data surveyed some 2,126 hotel properties around the broad region comprising around 288,000 rooms.
