Uber Just Launched in Barbados
Travelers visiting Barbados now have a new way to explore the island: Uber is officially available across Barbados, marking the company’s first launch in the Eastern Caribbean.
With just a few taps, visitors can request a ride through Uber Taxi, connecting directly with the island’s licensed taxi drivers. The service is designed to expand opportunities for local drivers while giving travelers the same confidence and safety standards they know from home.
“When people travel, they want to feel comfortable moving around and discovering new places,” said Belén Romero, Regional General Manager for Andean, Central America, and the Caribbean. “With the Uber app, visitors can explore Barbados with the same confidence and safety standards they know from home, while supporting local taxi drivers who make the island experience truly unique.”
Uber Taxi has already proven popular in destinations like the Dominican Republic, where it has facilitated more than 115,000 rides since 2022, including 31,000 to and from Punta Cana International Airport.
In Barbados, the company is also introducing Uber Reserve, which allows travelers to schedule rides up to 90 days in advance—perfect for airport transfers or planned day trips—and Uber Hourly, letting users book a driver by the hour for multiple stops. Barbados is the first country in the Caribbean to offer Uber Hourly, designed specifically for the tourism experience.
The app includes more than 30 safety features such as trip sharing, PIN verification, and optional audio recording, and every driver must complete a verification process before receiving ride requests.
Uber’s arrival underscores Barbados’ growing reputation as a modern, connected destination—one where visitors can experience authentic island hospitality with seamless, tech-enabled convenience.
