The new Secrets in Cancun.

First there was Saint Lucia. Then Aruba. Then in the Dominican Republic. Now Secrets has opened its fourth all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean this year, with this week’s debut of the new Secrets Mirabel Cancun.

The newest resort by Hyatt’s adults-only all-inclusive brand is the latest addition to Cancun, with 487 rooms, smack in the middle of the popular Cancun Hotel Zone.

The resort, set on the beach, gives you views of both the sea and the nearby Nichupte Lagoon; but you’ll probably be spending your time one of the pool — particularly the angular, oceanside pool that is the resort’s centerpiece.

What you do get is Secrets’ broad all-inclusive program, which includes Secrets signatures like the Barefoot Grill, a steakhouse called Blue Water, and a modern Mexican spot called El Patio, among others.

And yes, there’s a swim-up bar.

I’ve long extolled the virtues of Secrets’ Preferred Club option — a kind of elevated room class that also comes with its own all-day club lounge, among other inclusions — and there’s one here, too. It’s always worth the splurge.

There’s also a very cool-looking rooftop bar called Sky Bar — but it’s only for guests of the Preferred Club — another reason to make the splurge.

The biggest standout? Probably the rooms, which include a broad range of options from traditional tropical-view units (those start at around $212 per night) to Preferred Club oceanfront rooms that come with their own plunge pools (you can get those for about $1,969 per night). That is a bit steep, in my opinion, for a room you can get at other resorts for much less.

Interestingly, the swim-out room (that is, that don’t have their own plunge pools, just swim-out access), are more — $2,203 per night.

If you’re set on one of those, then I’d suggest the plunge option.

Cancun is an increasingly competitive hotel market, particularly in the all-inclusive space, where brand-new resorts seem to be opening with the frequency of a cheap ham radio. But the Secrets brand is pretty tried and true at this point, and this one is a very sleek, well-designed addition to the Cancun Hotel Zone.
