Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, Celebrity Xcel, has marked a major milestone ahead of its debut later this year, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Here’s more on what’s in store in Xcel, including a major new concept called “The Bazaar,” which will change its menus depending on the port of call.

On Sept. 13, the ship completed its first ocean sailing near the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where it has been under construction. The vessel successfully carried out a series of maneuverability tests designed to evaluate functional and operational capabilities.

Helmed by Captain Kyriakos “Kirk” Matragkas, Celebrity Xcel passed the trials “with flying colors,” according to the company, clearing the way for the ship’s inaugural sailings in November.

Celebrity Xcel is the fifth ship in the line’s Edge Series and will introduce new onboard experiences when it officially launches later this year.

Celebrity Xcel will make its debut this November from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, where it will homeport for its inaugural Caribbean season with a series of week-long cruises. After its first year, the ship is set to reposition to PortMiami in November 2026, where it will continue sailing Caribbean itineraries from one of the world’s busiest cruise ports.

We love the Edge series – including the fantastic Beyond; you can find my review of that ship here.

This Is the Single Best Thing You Will Eat in Puerto Rico

puerto rico bacalaito

I love the food in Puerto Rico. I adore mofongo. Flan. Arroz con pollo. At Christmastime, coquito is a must in your glass. But in my travels to the island, there’s one thing I still think about long after I come home. One thing that never fails to wow. One taste that I can’t forget. It’s […]

The Rope Bar at The Shore Club in Turks and Caicos Has Stunning Design and Island Cocktails

You don’t just walk into The Rope Bar — you step into a space that feels alive. Thick coils of rope twist upward into soaring columns, looping across the ceiling in sculptural waves. Golden light filters through the fibers, catching in the curves and shadows, turning the room into something both dramatic and calming. It’s […]

Cayman Kai in Grand Cayman Has White Sand, Calm Water, and the Birthplace of the Mudslide

The drive out to Cayman Kai feels like you’re leaving the island behind. George Town slips away, the sands of Seven Mile fade, and the road begins to narrow, winding past mangroves and glimpses of turquoise sea. Then the air shifts. The water looks brighter, and suddenly the landscape opens to a stretch of shoreline […]

Arashi Beach in Aruba Has Calm Water, Bright White Sand, and a Beach Bar You’ll Love

The sound reaches you first — music spilling out of a palapa-roofed beach bar, the low hum of conversation, the clink of Amstel Bright bottles on wooden counters. Just before the California Lighthouse, where the road bends into dunes and sea, Arashi Beach comes into view. It’s a stretch of white sand that feels both […]
