“A Game Changer for Bimini”
Bimini is entering a new era of accessibility, with American Airlines set to launch the first-ever nonstop service from the U.S. to South Bimini Airport on Feb. 14, 2026.
The new Miami–Bimini flights mark a turning point for the island known as “The Gateway to The Bahamas.”
“This is a game-changer for Bimini,” said Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation. “This nonstop connection with a major U.S. city not only enhances accessibility but also signals a new phase of growth for the island’s economy. It is a testament to our ongoing efforts to elevate our tourism product and to partner with world-class airlines to meet global demand for our diverse islands.”
The new route, operated three times weekly on Embraer 175 aircraft, will give travelers seamless access to Bimini’s world-class resorts, fishing, and island adventures.
It also positions Bimini as a stronger player in The Bahamas’ overall tourism mix, offering a direct pathway for U.S. visitors to one of the country’s fastest-growing Out Island destinations.
The timing aligns with an $80 million, two-phase modernization of South Bimini Airport under a Public-Private Partnership agreement, part of the wider Out Islands Renaissance Project to redevelop 14 airports across the archipelago.
The upgrade will deliver a new terminal, improved airfield facilities, and a visitor experience designed to support growing commercial demand.
“The launch of American Airlines’ nonstop service to Bimini underscores the island’s growing appeal as a premier destination,” said Latia Duncombe, Director General of Tourism. “This new connection will boost visitor arrivals, strengthen tourism, and provide travelers with a seamless pathway to experience the charm and authenticity of our Out Islands.”
For American Airlines, the expansion builds on a deep footprint in The Bahamas, where it will operate more than 30 peak daily flights this winter and remains the only U.S. carrier serving Bimini, Governor’s Harbour, and Freeport.
With Bimini now just a short hop from Miami, officials say the new service is not just about convenience — it’s a foundation for growth that could reshape the island’s tourism and economic future.
