The Best Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad Has a Sushi Bar, Ocean Views, and a Rooftop Infinity Pool

The popular rooftop pool at the Hyatt Regency in Trinidad.

Angostura 1919 at the Waterfront. Tekka don at the sushi bar. Warm greetings from the staff as the city hums outside. I arrive in Port of Spain and the Hyatt Regency feels like exactly what I was looking for — a place that balances the buzz of Trinidad’s capital with the calm of a waterfront escape. The hotel rises above Wrightson Road, modern and bright, set right against the Gulf of Paria. The first thing I notice is how connected it feels to the city, but once you step inside, there’s an ease that makes you want to slow down.

Arrival in Trinidad

Check-in is effortless. Bags disappear as quickly as they arrive, and the staff are genuinely warm — the kind of welcome that makes you feel looked after, not just checked in. The lobby opens to wide views of the water, a reminder that the Caribbean is always just beyond the glass.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Upstairs, the rooms are sleek and modern, with clean lines and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the gulf or the skyline. Beds are dressed in crisp linens, workspaces are smartly laid out, and everything feels new. But it’s the bathrooms that really stand out — glass walls, oversized rain showers, deep soaking tubs in select suites. Polished stone, chrome fixtures, and thoughtful lighting make them feel more spa than standard. It’s a detail that elevates the stay, turning downtime into part of the experience.

The Rooftop Pool

The rooftop terrace is the hotel’s signature space. The infinity-edge pool stretches out toward the horizon, high enough to take in the city, the sea, and the mountains beyond. It’s the place where guests linger: stretched out on loungers, taking a swim, or just letting the afternoon slide by with something cold from the pool bar. At sunset, the terrace glows with orange light, and Port of Spain feels far away even though it’s right below.

Dining at Hyatt Regency Trinidad

Food is central here, and Hyatt delivers it through a collection of spaces that each feel distinct.

At Waterfront Restaurant, mornings begin with a grand buffet: fresh papaya, pineapple, and melon stacked high, fried bake and saltfish alongside made-to-order eggs and pancakes, strong coffee poured quickly and often. Lunch shifts to seafood chowders, crisp salads, and hearty local dishes like curried goat and rice. Dinner is the showpiece: grilled snapper, steaks, lamb shanks, and a spread of Caribbean-inspired small plates with ocean views just beyond the glass.

For something more casual, the Sushi Bar serves fresh rolls, sashimi, and bento boxes in a sleek, minimalist setting — perfect for a quick bite before heading out into the city. On the terrace, Lobby Lounge & Bar is an easy choice for light snacks and rum cocktails, with bartenders who know how to mix a proper Trinidadian punch. By the pool, the Infinity Pool Bar keeps things relaxed with burgers, flatbreads, and cold Carib beers that seem to taste better under the late-afternoon sun.

Every outlet feels connected to the property’s larger vibes: local flavor mixed with international polish, always backed by attentive service.

How to Get There

Getting to Trinidad is simple. Major U.S. carriers including American, JetBlue, and United offer nonstop service from cities like Miami, New York, and Houston into Port of Spain’s Piarco International Airport. From the airport, it’s about a 30-minute drive to downtown Port of Spain, and the Hyatt Regency sits right on Wrightson Road — directly on the waterfront. Taxis and private transfers are easy to arrange, and once you’re here, the city is at your doorstep.

How Much It Costs

Rates at Hyatt Regency Trinidad typically start around $220 per night for standard rooms, with premium waterfront rooms and suites running higher, often between $300 and $500 per night depending on season and availability. It’s a strong value for the combination of service, amenities, and location — and often the best balance of luxury and convenience in Port of Spain.

Why It’s the Best in Port of Spain

Hyatt Regency Trinidad is more than just a hotel — it’s the city’s benchmark. The location puts you in the heart of everything, right on the waterfront, close to downtown and cultural landmarks. The rooftop pool gives you a reason to stay in all day. The restaurants keep you connected to the local flavor while offering variety you don’t find elsewhere in the city. The rooms and bathrooms are polished, comfortable, and smartly designed. And the service ties it all together, consistently warm, thoughtful, and reliable.

For travelers — whether on business, leisure, or both — there’s no better place to stay in Port of Spain — or in Trinidad, for that matter.
