Carnival Cruise Line Is Bringing New Ships to Galveston
The buzz in Galveston is only getting louder. Carnival Cruise Line is on the move, and in 2027-2028 the cruise giant will homeport four ships from Texas — Carnival Horizon, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Jubilee, two of them for the first time in Texas.
For travelers, it means more choices than ever before. Whether it’s a quick four-day escape to Cozumel, a weeklong Eastern Caribbean sailing with stops at Celebration Key, or a once-in-a-lifetime Panama Canal transit, the lineup promises something for every kind of cruiser.
A New Era in Galveston Cruising
The newly announced deployment marks a milestone for Carnival in Galveston. “Galveston is one of our most popular homeports, and this new deployment continues our commitment to our Texas guests and the community by adding more variety than ever,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
The diversity of ships is part of the story. Each represents a different class in the Carnival fleet, giving travelers four unique ways to cruise from Texas.
Carnival Horizon
Carnival Horizon will arrive in Galveston on May 19, 2027, debuting with an eight-day Western Caribbean sailing to Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Isla Tropicale. The Vista-class ship carries nearly 4,000 guests and offers more than 70 departures through April 2028, including frequent four- and five-day getaways. On board, guests will find specialty dining like JiJi’s Asian Kitchen and Cucina del Capitano, family favorites like SkyRide and WaterWorks, and nightly entertainment ranging from Playlist Productions to comedy shows.
Carnival Spirit
Carnival Spirit begins sailing from Galveston on Oct. 11, 2027, bringing a mix of four-, five- and six-day itineraries that call on Cozumel, Progreso and Belize. After completing her Alaska season and transiting the Panama Canal, the Spirit-class ship will also feature 11 ten-day voyages and a special 16-day Panama Canal Journeys cruise from Seattle to Galveston, stopping in Cabo San Lucas, Puntarenas and Cartagena. On board, cruisers can expect Carnival signatures like Guy’s Burger Joint, Bonsai Sushi and the Alchemy Bar.
Carnival Breeze
Carnival Breeze will introduce a new seven-day schedule in May 2027, offering both Western and Eastern Caribbean routes with calls at its new Grand Bahama port, Celebration Key, along with Nassau, Key West, Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Isla Tropicale. Special voyages include a Christmas sailing on Dec. 18, 2027, and two 14-day Carnival Journeys cruises, one to the Eastern Caribbean and one to the Southern Caribbean. The nearly 4,000-guest Dream-class ship is home to SportsSquare, Cloud9 Spa and Carnival WaterWorks.
Carnival Jubilee
Carnival Jubilee, the fleet’s flagship and Galveston favorite, will continue to sail six- and eight-day itineraries between May 2027 and April 2028. Western Caribbean cruises visit Cozumel and Isla Tropicale, while eight-day Bahamas voyages include Nassau, Celebration Key and Half Moon Cay. The LNG-powered Excel-class ship carries more than 6,400 guests, showcasing over 30 dining venues and lounges, plus BOLT, the Ultimate SeaCoaster.
