Maho is one of the best spots in the Virgin Islands to see sea turtles grazing in the seagrass beds, along with rays and colorful reef fish. But what I really love here is the scenery — the leaning palms, the endless Virgin Islands vistas.

Across from the beach is Maho Crossroads, a pop-up beach village built around sustainability and simplicity. It’s entirely solar-powered and designed to leave a light footprint, with moveable structures that blend into the landscape. The Paddle-In Tiki Bar serves up classics like Painkillers and rum punches alongside cold beer and frozen cocktails. There’s also the Love Maho boutique, housed in colorful converted containers, selling island-made goods and stylish souvenirs. A food truck delivers fresh island fare, from fish tacos and lobster rolls to easy grab-and-go bites that keep you close to the sand.

This is not a resort,. It’s meant to be casual, unpretentious, and rooted in the beach itself. Hammocks, shade seating, and beach games all fold into the experience. It’s the salt life, castaway-fun kind of place you’re always dreaming about on cold winter afternoons.
