The Cayman Islands Has a Wave of New Hotels — Here’s What’s New and What’s Next

Caribbean hotels actually had a stronger month in July.

You can feel it before you even land. A change in the air. A vibe of something happening — something fresh, but familiar. Grand Cayman has always been known for Seven Mile Beach, luxury resorts, and turquoise perfection. But now, it’s entering a new era.

There’s new energy here. And it’s coming in the form of bold new hotels, design-forward openings, and a reimagined sense of place. From wellness retreats to skyline-style rooftops, the Cayman Islands are quietly transforming the way you stay in the Caribbean, with the destination’s famous brand of authentic luxury.

Hotel Indigo Brings Rooftop Energy to Seven Mile Beach

The first Hotel Indigo in the Caribbean opened last year, and it’s already reshaping the hotel landscape in Grand Cayman. With 282 rooms, a rooftop lounge overlooking the water, and a design rooted in local art and texture, it’s modern, expressive, and effortlessly cool.

The open-air restaurant, bright common spaces, and infinity pool make it feel more like a curated lifestyle retreat than a traditional beach resort. And it’s just steps from everything that makes Seven Mile Beach iconic — only now, there’s a new vantage point.

VIDA Is the New Wellness Escape

Another 2024 debut, VIDA is something different: a low-density lodge-style retreat centered around nature, wellness, and reconnection. The hotel has just 18 private rooms and bungalows, set near the mangroves and designed for quiet transformation.

This is where you go to reset. There’s no high-rise. No beach club. Just movement classes, natural textures, and a place to slow down. It’s a hotel built not just for travel — but for healing.

ONE|GT Ushers in Boutique Style in George Town

Tucked into the heart of George Town is one of the island’s most talked-about new hotels: ONE|GT. It’s the Cayman Islands’ first design-driven boutique hotel, with just 97 rooms and a rooftop pool club that adds a new kind of cool to the capital (and it’s already part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World).

The rooms are sleek, minimalist, and built around connection to the sea. And the whole property feels curated — not overdone, not corporate. Just smart design, strong service, and a vibe that blends urban energy with island calm. And it’s opening before the end of this year.

The Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman Will Be a New Flagship

Set to open later this year, the new Grand Hyatt will be a major addition to Seven Mile Beach. With 382 rooms and suites, six different restaurants and bars, a full-service spa, and a location steps from the sand, it will be the island’s largest full-scale luxury residential resort in years — adding to a luxury collection that includes some of my favorite hotels in the Caribbean: the Kimpton Seafire and the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

The design is contemporary Caribbean — clean lines, open spaces, and natural materials. There will be event venues, pools, a beach club, and dining concepts that range from rooftop cocktails to coastal Mexican flavors. It’s ambitious, and it’s coming soon.

What’s Driving the Surge?

It’s not just about new hotels. It’s about a new kind of traveler — one looking for experience, wellness, and authenticity. The new wave of Cayman hotels is meeting that moment, with properties that reflect place, design, and purpose.
