Puerto Rico Is Projecting a Big July Fourth Travel Weekend

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 4, 2025 - 2:37 pm

Puerto Rico is heading into the July 4 holiday weekend with one of its strongest summer travel performances in recent years, according to new data from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

The agency’s latest survey of endorsed accommodations shows an island-wide projected hotel occupancy of 82.8 percent from July 3-6, with the potential to exceed 83 percent thanks to last-minute bookings.

The highest demand is concentrated in the island’s East region, which includes popular beach destinations like Fajardo and Humacao, reporting more than 84.2 percent occupancy. The East is followed by Porta del Sol in the west (83.6 percent) and the Metro region (83.2 percent). Other regions showing strong performance include Porta Atlántico (80 percent), Porta Cordillera (78.2 percent), and Porta Caribe (76.9 percent).

“The numbers we’re receiving from endorsed properties are very encouraging, and we’re confident this summer season will see robust hotel occupancy,” said Willianette Robles Cancel, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. “This translates into increased room tax revenue, greater commercial activity, and a meaningful boost to our visitor economy.”

According to the report, July 4 is projected to be the peak night for hotel stays across the island, with the East region reaching an 89 percent occupancy rate—further reinforcing the growing appeal of destinations beyond the metropolitan area.

Tourism officials also noted that the strong numbers across non-urban areas reflect the continued success of the agency’s strategy to decentralize tourism and promote regional travel.

“This data shows a clear, sustained growth in the sector’s summer performance compared to last year,” Robles Cancel said, referencing the 81 percent island-wide occupancy recorded during the same period in 2024.

She encouraged residents to continue discovering the island’s diverse attractions through the official domestic tourism platform, VoyTuristeando.com, highlighting Puerto Rico’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary appeal.

“We invite everyone to keep exploring Puerto Rico — Puerto Rico Is Projecting a Big July Fourth Weekend not just this weekend, but all year long,” she said.
