Punta Cana Just Got a New Daily Flight From Mexico City

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 28, 2025 - 4:14 pm

In a major boost for air connectivity between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, Aeromexico has officially launched daily nonstop service between Mexico City and Punta Cana.

The new route, inaugurated on Thursday, is operating daily Boeing 737 service to Punta Cana International Airport throughout the summer season, meaning an estimated 10,000 new seats per month and enhancing connections from 40 cities in Mexico.

It’s the second major intra-Caribbean flight for Aeromexico to launch this month, joining new service between Mexico City and San Juan.

Expanding the Dominican Reach

The new Mexico City–Punta Cana service adds to Aeromexico’s existing daily flights to Santo Domingo, effectively doubling seat capacity between the two countries to nearly 20,000 seats monthly.

The route will be operated with dual-class aircraft, featuring both Premier and Tourist cabins. Flight AM461 touched down in Punta Cana with 98 percent occupancy, welcomed with traditional music and dance by the Ministry of Tourism’s ballet.

Representatives from Aeromexico, Dominican airport officials, and government leaders—including the Mexican Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Carlos Aysa González — celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the aircraft’s arrival this week.

A Summer of Growth

The new nonstop route, part of a growing trend of intra-regional Caribbean aviation growth, emerges amid sustained growth in Mexican travel to the Dominican Republic.

From January to April 2025 alone, more than 44,000 Mexican tourists visited the country, a 33 percent increase over the same period in 2024

In 2024 overall, more than 115,000 Mexican travelers chose the Dominican Republic as their destination of choice, officials said this week.

At the heart of that appeal is Punta Cana: a beach destination with sun-drenched coastlines, world-renowned, mostly all-inclusive resorts, and a hospitality sector tailored to both leisure travelers and MICE tourism professionals.

On board the inaugural flight was Carolina Pérez, Director of the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Promotion Office in Mexico, leading a delegation of Mexican business leaders and planners set to explore the destination’s meeting and event offerings.

Here’s the Flight Schedule

Mexico City to Punta Cana: Departs 8:55 AM – Arrives 3:40 PM

Punta Cana to Mexico City: Departs 5:01 PM – Arrives 8:10 PM
