Nassau Is Getting New Nonstop Flights From Three Cities in Canada
There will soon be more ways for Canadian travelers to escape to The Bahamas.
Porter Airlines is adding new nonstop service to Nassau from three key Canadian cities, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The new routes from Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton are set to boost Canadian visitor arrivals and strengthen The Bahamas’ appeal as a winter sun destination — a destination that is already seeing a surge in travel from Canada.
Beginning Nov. 26, Porter will launch daily nonstop flights from Toronto to Nassau. That will be followed by twice-weekly service from Ottawa beginning Dec. 13 and twice-weekly flights from Hamilton starting Dec. 14.
“We are thrilled to welcome Porter Airlines’ new nonstop service to The Bahamas,” said I. Chester Cooper, The Bahamas’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation. “Canada is an important market. This new airlift perfectly aligns with our marketing strategy to continue to expand air connectivity in key markets.”
The service will operate on Porter’s Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with the airline promising its signature economy experience — including no middle seats, complimentary wine and beer, and premium Canadian snacks.
“Canadian travel interest in The Bahamas is steadily growing and now passengers can enjoy Porter’s award-winning hospitality in every aspect of the flight experience,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president of network planning and reporting for Porter Airlines.
Latia Duncombe, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, said the flights would support efforts to promote longer stays and return visits to the destination.
“We’ve seen strong, consistent interest from Canadian travelers across multiple islands,” Duncombe said. “This service from Porter Airlines will help convert that interest into arrivals.”
The move comes as Canadian tourism to The Bahamas continues to rebound, with strong demand expected this coming winter season.
