Americans Keep Falling in Love With This Caribbean Island
Curaçao is seeing a strong start to the summer shoulder season. The Curaçao Tourist Board reported just under 59,000 stayover visitors to the island in May 2025, marking a 9 percent year-over-year increase and reflecting consistent growth across all major source markets.
South America led the surge with a 20 percent rise in arrivals, followed by North America at 16 percent and the Caribbean at 13 percent. Visitor numbers from Europe remained stable, and Europe and North America continued to be the leading source regions overall, accounting for 22,109 and 18,412 visitors, respectively.
Travelers stayed an average of 7.7 nights during the month, according to data from the island’s immigration card system.

Top Source Markets in May 2025
The Netherlands remained Curaçao’s single largest market with 19,008 visitors. While slightly lower than the 19,192 visitors recorded in May 2024, Dutch travelers maintained strong engagement with the destination, staying an average of 11.3 nights. A majority — 57 percent — opted for non-resort accommodations, while the remaining 43 percent stayed at resorts, a testament to the island’s robust home-sharing economy.

The United States posted significant growth, with arrivals jumping 21 percent to 17,296 compared to 14,272 in May 2024. Resort stays were preferred by 68 percent of American visitors, and the average stay was 5.8 nights.
Colombia ranked third in visitor volume, sending 3,977 travelers to the island in May, a 9 percent increase over the same month in 2024. Most Colombian visitors—59 percent—chose resort accommodations, and the average stay was 5.1 nights.

Year-to-Date Performance
From January through May 2025, Curaçao welcomed a total of 794,688 visitors. That figure includes 342,550 stayover arrivals, 21,280 day-trippers, and 430,858 cruise passengers—amounting to an overall increase of 3 percent compared to the same period last year.
The growth reflects the island’s targeted efforts to expand visibility in key markets and deepen cooperation with hotel and airline partners.
As Curaçao continues its upward tourism trend, the focus remains on delivering meaningful guest experiences while preserving the island’s distinct identity.
