Tropic Ocean Airways Expands Fort Lauderdale–Bimini Flights
The mangroves. The bonefishing. The beaches. In response to rising demand, Tropic Ocean Airways is expanding capacity from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamian island of Bimini. The route, which currently operates seven days a week between Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) and South Bimini Airport (NSB), will see increased availability in the coming weeks, according to the airline.
Tropic Ocean Airways operates a fleet of amphibious Cessna Grand Caravans, offering scheduled and private charter flights throughout The Bahamas and Florida. The carrier’s Fort Lauderdale–Bimini service has become a key link for travelers seeking fast, direct access to the island destination, particularly for weekend getaways and boating excursions.
The added capacity comes as Bimini continues to see strong visitor arrivals, driven by both its proximity to South Florida and its growing reputation as a quick and easy Caribbean escape.
Further details on flight frequency and scheduling are expected to be released soon.
The Fort Lauderdale-Bimin flight takes about half an hour. What we like a bout the service is that it’s semi-private, meaning you check in to the Sheltair terminal (there’s free valet parking) and then just hop right onto the flight. No large-airport hassles.
Bimini is a unique place in The Bahamas, a tiny archipelago with some of the region’s best fishing, particularly bone fishing (in fact, Dr Martin Luther King Jr famously went bonefishing on his visits here).
Bimini has long occupied a unique position in the lore of the region, from Ponce de Leon’s legendary quest for the Fountain of Youth to Ernest Hemingway’s sojourns on the island, immortalized in his book “Islands in the Stream.”
