Air Traffic Growth Slows in Puerto Rico

By: Alexander Britell - June 6, 2025 - 9:38 am

After years of sizzling growth, Puerto Rico’s air traffic slowed considerably last month, according to new data from ASUR, which manages the island’s Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport.

Passenger growth was 1.3 percent year over year in May, significantly lower than it had been over the last few years.

But more notably, domestic traffic from the mainland United States grew by just 0.2 percent.

That was in sharp contrast to the airport’s international traffic, which has continued to grow significantly – to the tune of 10.5 percent in May.

For the year, the numbers are still strong, with overall traffic up 9.2 percent at 5.934 million.

While Puerto Rico continues to see demand on travel platforms, this slowing growth is something to keep an eye on.
