Auberge Resorts’ Riviera Maya Retreat Just Named a New GM

By: Caitlin Sullivan - May 15, 2025 - 10:07 am

Etéreo, Auberge Resorts’ Riviera Maya luxury resort, has named a new general manager, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The property has appointed Laura Villalobos as its new General Manager, the company announced. The oceanfront resort is located within the Kanai development on Mexico’s Riviera Maya (joined by a St Regis and an Edition resort).

Villalobos, a native of Mexico City who was raised in Puerto Vallarta, brings more than two decades of hospitality experience to the role, including recent leadership as Commercial Director at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City, where she helped reposition the property among the capital’s leading luxury hotels. Her career spans operations, sales, and marketing across various high-end brands.

In her new role, Villalobos will oversee all aspects of resort operations at Etéreo, with a focus on the resort’s core areas of wellness, culinary programming, and nature-based experiences. She is expected to guide the property’s ongoing development as a destination centered on cultural connection and guest engagement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Laura to Etéreo and the Auberge family,” said Mo Elbanna, Executive Vice President, Global Operations, Auberge Resorts Collection. “Laura’s creativity, commercial expertise, and people-first approach make her an exceptional fit to lead Etéreo into its next chapter.”

The 75-room Etéreo was actually the first resort to open in the ultra-luxe Kanai community when it opened back in 2021. Then came the St. Regis and Edition.

Interestingly, it’s the only Auberge-branded resort in the Caribbean right now; the brand exited the Malliouhana resort in Anguilla in 2023.

Prices at the resort start at $1,154 per night right now, according to Google Hotels.
