The Baha Mar Just Added a Beach Playground — and It’s a Game Changer for Family Travel
If you don’t have kids, it may not seem that important. But when you’re traveling with little ones, having a playground somewhere nearby isn’t just a luxury — it’s essential. Unfortunately (and surprisingly), it’s seldom something you find at hotels.
Not at the Baha Mar in Nassau, The Bahamas, however, which has made it obvious that it’s looking at every single detail of the travel experience, whether it’s a brand-new jazz club or a kosher food truck.
The resort is debuting its very own on-the-sand playground, called Sandy Cay, in June.
The playground is designed for kids from 2 to 14, with an “octopus reef” art installation at the center, along with a jungle gym, climbable coral, play zones and slides.

The new Sandy Cay is an “elevated way” for kids to enjoy their time at the property,” Baha Mar President Graeme Davis said in a statement shared with Caribbean Journal.
It’s part of a broader family offering that includes the massive Baha Bay waterpark complex, wildlife experiences, a 50-game Game Zone, an “Explorers Club” and even its just-debuted Family Suites, larger options for those traveling with kids or bigger groups.
That’s along with pickleball, tennis and a full-fledged mini golf course called Mini Blue (a nod to the resort’s 18-hole championship course called Royal Blue).
It’s all adding up to one of the top family destinations in the Caribbean — and the hemisphere.
So what about prices?
For a room at the resort’s Grand Hyatt Baha Mar with two queen beds, rates start at $422 in June, according to the resort’s website.
Our tip, if you want to splurge, go for one of the poolside “villas,” which giv you almost 1,300 square feet.
Flying to Nassau?
You can find rates from Miami as low as $260 in June on JetBlue. Find flights from other cities here.
