Delta Air Lines Is Adding More Nonstop Caribbean Flights, With New Routes to Grand Cayman and Nassau
Caribbean travel is heating up for the winter, with airlines adding more new routes — a very strong sign for the region’s peak season. That includes a pair of new routes from rapidly-expanding Delta Air Lines.
So where it the carrier headed next in the Caribbean?
Delta has plans for a pair of new nonstop routes: one, a brand-new flight between Detroit and Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands; the other, a new nonstop route from an increasingly important source market for the Caribbean: Minneapolis, with flights between Minneapolis and Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport.
Both routes will be kicking off in December (Delta hasn’t announced an exact start date yet), and both will be operating for the peak travel season between December and April.

Detroit is another hot market for travel, with new routes on a number of carriers to the Caribbean. There’s more than meets the eye there — while Detroit has strong local demand, it’s also just a hop over the border to areas like Windsor, Ontario, meaning lots of Canadian travelers come on the route, too.
Grand Cayman has been seeing continued tourism growth (as we recently reported), and this is another boost for a destination that is one of the Caribbean’s culinary capitals and a thriving luxury hotspot, from existing resorts like the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and Kimpton Seafire to the soon-to-debut Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman, among others.
For Nassau, demand is still very strong, with a growing position as one of the Caribbean’s top destinations for experiential travel.

That’s along with one of the top hotel products of any place in the Caribbean. The options are vast and outstanding, whether you want a large resort like Atlantis Paradise Island (rooms at $281 right now) or the Baha Mar (Grand Hyatt rooms starting at $363), a residential retreat like the Goldwynn on Cable Beach ($603 per night) or the historic Graycliff Hotel, home to a restaurant recently named number one in the whole Caribbean.
The news comes after Delta just announced expanded flights to St Thomas and a pair of new islands: Grenada and St Vincent.
