Nassau, The Bahamas Is More Exciting Than Ever, And Now It Has Another New Nonstop Flight
The celebrity chef eateries. The conch salad on Potter’s Cay. The endless Junkanoo evenings. The waterslides at Atlantis’ Aquaventure. The dinners at Graycliff. The cocktails at the Dilly Club. The jazz nights at Jon Batiste’s. Nassau, The Bahamas is one of the most exciting places to visit in the region right now, and it’s no secret: travelers are seeking out rich, unforgettable experiences, and Nassau & Paradise Island are filled with them.
The twin-island destination’s growth in recent years has led to a host of new flights from a bunch of emerging source markets across the United States, and there will soon be another one: fast-growing Avelo Airlines is adding a new connection between Raleigh-Durham and Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport.
The new nonstop flight will run twice every week, with flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Bahamian officials confirmed to Caribbean Journal that the flights would take off on June 11.

It’s part of the country’s strategy to “aggressively grow air stopover arrivals” throughout The Bahamas, Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Chester Cooper told Caribbean Journal.
More importantly, it’s a new route from the increasingly significant North Carolina market, home to a number of the United States’ top universities and one of several markets that are turning into new Caribbean hubs.
It’s “an important market for our destination,” said Latia Duncombe, director general of tourism for The Bahamas.

It “even easier for travelers from Raleigh-Durham to experience our vibrant culture, world-class hospitality, and breathtaking islands,” she said.
It’s the second major route from RDU airport, following the new service from Raleigh to Grand Bahama on Bahamasair.
So what about prices? Fares in June on Avelo start at $269.51, according to their website. In fact, flights across the board are getting cheaper, particularly this summer. You can find similar fares from Miami to Nassau, for example, with June prices on American Airlines at $270 roundtrip.

What about your hotel? The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, where we recently stayed and were totally impressed (including with the resort-within-a-resort called The Reserve) has rooms starting at $251 in June, according to Google Hotels.
The SLS Baha Mar is at $293 per night, and the Margaritaville Beach Resort is just $190 per night, among others. Looking for Atlantis? You can check into the Coral at Atlantis for $269 in June.
