Old San Juan in Puerto Rico.

We’ve written extensively of late about the emergence of new source markets for Caribbean travel in recent years, from places like Providence to Minneapolis to Detroit to Austin.

Now you can add another one. Spirit has launched the first-ever Caribbean flights from San Antonio, with new nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The new flight is operating between three and four times per week depending on the season, part of Spirit’s sizable network of flights between the US mainland and Puerto Rico.

The route “provides critical connectivity between the two vibrant communities of San Antonio and San Juan,” said John Kirby, Spirit’s VP of network planning, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.

The flight takes about five hours.

So what are the prices?

You can find fares on Google Flights right now for about $598.
