A New Boutique Hotel Just Opened in Cartagena’s Old City, With a Rooftop Bar and and a Pair of Pools
It’s one of the great gems of the region: the walled city of Cartagena, the centuries-old historic quarter of the increasingly hot destination on Colombia’s Caribbean coastline.
And now Cartagena just added a new boutique hotel, set with a restored 16th century mansion.
It’s called Casa Carolina, and it’s got just three suites and 12 rooms in a fantastic location in the heart of the walled quarter.
The boutique hotel has two different pools, Ayurvedic spa treatments and a party piece: a rooftop terrace with views of the legendary city. The terrace is the product of a partnership with the renowned El Baron bar.

It’s “more than just a hotel,” according to Caroline Tchekhoff, owner of Casa Carolina.
It’s about relaxing, rejuvenating and “immersion” into the history and culture of Cartagena, she said.
Then there’s the culinary program, led by Chefs Andres Fernandez Leon and Santiago Suarez, who have cultivated a locally-sourced eatery called Just B Wellness Cafe.
So what about prices?
You can find rooms for $361 per night right now, according to Google Hotels.
It’s one of several highly-anticipated openings in Cartagena this year, including the planned debut of the first-ever Four Seasons in the city.
