This Dominican Republic Airline Will Be Launching Nonstop Flights to Punta Cana

Endless beach bars (Jellyfish, anyone?). World-class golf. Sprawling all-inclusive resorts. That famous thatched-roof airport. There’s nowhere quite like Punta Cana, and it’s the main reason why the Dominican Republic attracts more visitors than any other destination in the Caribbean (a number that keeps going up).

But it’s also because the country has made tourism a national priority for years now. But recently, the Dominican Republic has been working to develop something new: its aviation sector. That’s spawned several new Dominican carriers, from RED Air to Arajet, with the country now boasting a growing local industry. And while much of that growth has focused on intra-regional flights to destinations like Curacao and Jamaica, it’s starting to go international.

That began with Arajet’s first route between Miami and Santo Domingo. But now the carrier is launching another major route: Miami to Punta Cana, with plans for flights as many as six days of the week.

The idea, according to Arajet CEO Victor Pacheco, is to establish the Dominican Republc as a “new, affordable travel hub.”

So when do the flights begin? June, a spokesperson for Arajet told Caribbean Journal. The first flight will be on June 13, according to Arajet’s website.

For now, it seems like flights will be running four times per week, with service on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to Arajet.com.

So what about priceS? You can book fares on the carrier’s “smart” fare class (that gets you one personal item, but no checked bag) for $169.59 on the carrier’s launch offer.

For a checked back, that price goes up to $175.99.

By comparison, the cheapest competing nonstop from Miami to Punta Cana in mid-June will cost you about $358 on Frontier, or $459 out of Fort Lauderdale on JetBlue, according to Google Flights.
