Avelo Is Adding a New Nonstop Flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica
The beaches. The shopping. The jerk. Montego Bay is still the number one destination in Jamaica, drawing travelers for its popular blend of large resorts and exuberant service.
And as the island keeps adding more air seats, it’s set to welcome another new flight later this week, with the launch of flights between Raleigh-Durham and Montego Bay on Avelo Airlines.
The low-cost carrier is adding twice-weekly service from North Carolina to Montego Bay, a route that will operate for the high season. The route is operating on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The flight takes about three hours. It’s the latest in a continued Caribbean expansion for Avelo, which has been adding new flights to the region from all over the US, including typically under-served cities like Raleigh and both Hartford and New Haven, Conn.

What about prices?
You can book fares on the first flights this coming week for about $$318.26, according to Avelo’s website. Just note that is the basic fare, with extra charges depending on the seats you choose and how much baggage you’re bringing.
What about where to stay? While Montego Bay is famous for its large resorts, it’s actually the area’s smaller, luxe resorts that remain its best options.
We particularly like the Half Moon resort, the timeless, legendary Montego Bay resort that is the best luxury resort in the country, particularly it’s Eclipse at Half Moon resort-within-a-resort concept, where we’ve stayed several times and absolutely adored it. Rooms starting at $705 this month, according to Google Hotels.
