Cartagena Is Getting Its First-Ever Four Seasons Resort, With Plans for a Midyear Opening

By: Alexander Britell - January 27, 2025

The Four Seasons Cartagena, a project which was first announced back in 2019, is expected to have its long-awaited opening this year, Caribbean Journal

The new Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena will be the newest addition to arguably Colombia’s most beloved destination, set on the country’s Caribbean coastline.

The 131-room hotel is actually a transformation of an existing series of structures at the edge of the city’s enchanting old town, with some of them dating back to the 1500s.

It’s what Four Seasons is calling “Cartagena’s new cultural focal point.”

The hotel doesn’t have a booking date yet, but Four Seasons says it is opening “mid 2025.” That should mean a midsummer debut, but we’ll keep you apprised as we get closer and an actual opening date is revealed.

So what else do you need to know about the property?

The hotel will have eight different food and beverage concepts (including everything from a pizzeria to a Colombian eatery), along with a large conference space, joined by a gym and a wellness center.

It’s likely the scene will be headquartered at the hotel’s rooftop bar, with panoramic vistas of the city and the Bay.

The spa, called UMARI, will, in a nod to one of the hottest things in wellness, be rooted in local traditions, including the use of what Four Seasons says are local fruits and herbs.

That’s along with a pair of pools, both in the rooftop style that is so popular in Cartagena.

The property will also be offering guests some unique experiences, including the option to sail out to the nearby island of Baru.

You can take a boat trip to the nearby island of Baru.

The location is in the Getsemani area, the city’s colorful, art-filled, always-energetic quarter. It’s the first true ultra-luxe hotel in a city that has become one of the fastest-growing travel destinations in the wider Caribbean Basin in recent years, one our editors love visiting for its combination of modern cool and historic charm.

No prices have been revealed yet. If you simply can’t wait to travel to Cartagena before the opening, the city is filled with cool boutique hotels; we loved the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara, housed in a four-hundred-year-old former convent, on our recent stay.

So how do you fly to Cartagena?

The hotspot is accessed from a growing number of source cities in the US. That includes New York, where you can fly on JetBlue (with flights at about $321 right now).

American Airlines flies from Miami, with rates at about $367 right now. Avianca operates New York and Miami flights to Cartagena on a seasonal basis.
