JetBlue Is Adding Nonstop Flights to Three Caribbean Destinations, From the Dominican Republic’s Capital to the Coast of Honduras
The offshore islands off the coast of Honduras. The five-hundred-year-old streets of the Caribbean’s oldest city. The captivating charms of Antigua, Guatemala. They’re some of the most fascinating places to visit in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and now they’re getting a big boost from JetBlue.
This spring, JetBlue is launching new nonstop routes to Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala, Caribbean Journal has learned.
That includes new flights from New York JFK to San Pedro Sula, a gateway to many of the attractions and offshore hotspots of Honduras’ beautiful Caribbean coastline. That route, which kicks off June 12, will run daily.
Also launching that day is a new flight between Newark Liberty and Santo Domingo, the fast-growing Dominican Republic capital, which, while it’s home to some very cool new modern hotels (including the just-debuted Hyatt Centric), is really worth visiting for its Colonial Zone, the half-a-millennium oldest European in the New Word, filled with art galleries, cafes and an indescribable vibe. The Santo Domingo service will run between one and two times daily, according to the carrier.

Then there’s another new route: Fort Lauderdale to Guatemala City, a route that will start April 30 and complement existing service from New York. Most people tend to forget that Guatemala actually has a small but robust Caribbean coastline — and it’s home to some truly spectacular destinations, including the absolutely lovely Antigua, a historic, colorful, vibrant city that we always love visiting and one that’s not that far outside of the capital. That flight will also be operating daily.
So what about prices?
For JFK-San Pedro Sula, you’re looking at about $314.25 roundtrip in JetBlue’s entry-level Blue Basic fare.
The Newark-Santo Domingo flight is about $639.79. One thing to note about this route? It leaves late at night out of Newark, and departs very early in the morning out of Santo Domingo (the SDQ-EWR flight leaves at 5:01 AM).

The new Guatemala route has prices starting at about $298.41 roundtrip on a basic fare.
Are you planning a trip to any of these places?
If it’s San Pedro Sula, it’s a great way to get to the uncrowded, beautiful Bay Islands, including easy flight connections to the increasingly hot island of Honduras, which just welcomed a new Kimpton hotel (rooms from $379). You can also try lovely little spots like the beloved Anthony’s Key private island resort, with rooms at $419, according to Google Hotels.

For Guatemala, the capital isn’t a huge tourist destination, but if you make the drive (it’s usually less than an hour) you’ll find one of the gems of the Caribbean Basin: with historic streets, dynamic food, striking views and some truly lovely small hotels, including the Casa Santo Domingo ($305) and a Relais and Chateaux property called Villa Bokeh, which has rooms at $286 per night.
The there’s Santo Domingo, a city that’s been undergoing a renaissance in recent years, both its central business district with new hotels like the aforementioned Hyatt Centric ($146) and the truly captivating Colonial Zone. The latter is filled exclusively with boutique hotels set in historic buildings, including favorites we love like the Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando ($234) and the delightful Billini (home to its stunning rooftop), where rates start at $162 per night.
You can’t go wrong in any of these places — and you’re guaranteed a unique vacation you may not find in other popular places in the Caribbean.
