Delta Air Lines Is Adding Another New Caribbean Route, With Nonstop Flights to Punta Cana
The beaches. The all-inclusive resorts. The beach bars. The Brugal. Punta Cana is the crown jewel of the Caribbean’s most-visited country, and it’s getting another new route from Delta Air Lines next summer.
Beginning May 10, Delta will be kicking off a new nonstop flight between Detroit and Punta Cana, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The new route will run seasonally, with service every Saturday on a Boeing 737-900 aircraft.
It’s part of a growing Caribbean network out of Detroit, including the just-relaunched service between Detroit and Nassau in The Bahamas.
What about prices?
You can book the nonstop flight between Delta and Punta Cana for about $724 roundtrip, according to Google Flights.
What about where to stay? Navigating the hotel landscape in Punta Cana is anything but easy. You can choose from one of the many all-inclusive resorts, go for one of the few luxury options, or take a drive and head for destinations like La Romana.
If you’re looking for an all-inclusive, we always like the Lopesan Costa Bavaro, the most complete resort in Punta Cana’s popular Bavaro area. If you do, we highly recommend going for the property’s Unique Club, a special elevated wing of rooms that includes a special lounge, dedicated check-in and the best breakfast buffet at the property, among other inclusions. We also suggest you go for one of the resort’s excellent swim-up rooms, which are a kind of boutique swim-up concept that means you share a private pool with just a handful of neighboring rooms. Rooms at $480 per night.
If you go for luxury, it has to be Cap Cana, home to one of the best hotels in the Caribbean: the Eden Roc Cap Cana, a foodie favorite that has a mix of rooms on the beach and closer to the golf course; we actually like the latter better, with their private pools and villa-style layouts. Rooms from $1,700 per night in late January.
As for La Romana, the best option is still flying on American Airlines’ new flight from Miami, but if you fly to Punta Cana, you can take about an hour drive and arrive at the country’s leading resort: the Casa de Campo Hotel and Villas (rooms at the property’s fantastic Premier Club from about $2,005 per night this month).
