Saint Lucia’s Cruise Port Just Began a Major Redevelopment
Saint Lucia’s primary cruise port in Castries is getting a major makeover, one that just began this week with the demolition of the city’s Customs and Excise Department building.
The project is the beginning of what officials are calling a “new era” for the island’s cruise sector.
So what’s the plan?
State-of-the-art facilities, new berthing capabilities for larger ships and a better passenger experience, according to Global Ports Holding, the cruise company that manages several top ports around the Caribbean.
“This is the first step in fulfilling our commitment to the people of Saint Lucia to transform and modernize the cruise industry,” said Lancelot Arnold, general manager of the Saint Lucia Cruise Port. “Our goal is to deliver a world-class experience, starting with infrastructure that supports our vision of growth and excellence.”
The revamp is crucial in an Eastern Caribbean region that has a more competitive cruise industry than ever, with several ports, including Antigua and St Kitts, rising to the top of the region’s cruise destinations in recent years.
