Hyatt Just Added 17 New All-Inclusive Resorts, From Jamaica to Tulum
As Hyatt continues its talks on a potential acquisition of all-inclusive company Playa, the hotel giant just added 17 more resorts to its already-massive all-inclusive portfolio in the Caribbean.
Hyatt has officially absorbed 17 different Bahia Principe resorts into its collection, thanks to a long-term strategic joint venture that includes the management of the hotels and ownership of the Bahia Principe brand.
Since it kicked off its all-inclusive push by buying Apple Leisure Group in 2021, Hyatt has become a significant global player in the everything-included space, with a number of different brands ranging from Secrets to Hyatt Viva and an expansion push that shows no signs of slowing down.
Now, Bahia Principe’s Caribbean all-inclusive in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Mexico are part of the Hyatt umbrella, which the company calls its “Inclusive Collection.”
That includes 11 in the Dominican Republic, across Samana, Punta Cana and La Romana; four in the Mexican Caribbean, including in Sian Ka’an, Akumal in Tulum (two resorts); and two in Runaway Bay, Jamaica, which is close to Ocho Rios on the north coast of the country.
The new resorts include the recently-transformed Cayo Levantado private-island resort, which reopened last year after a major makeover and a re-orientation into a sustainability-focused resort.
The change means “more rooms, an expanded portfolio and more offerings on more stay occasions for guests and World of Hyatt members,” said Mark Hoplamazian, the president and CEO of Hyatt, in a statement.
So where to the Bahia Principe resorts fit in? Hyatt’s Zoëtry brand is its top-level all-inclusive option, followed by excellent brands like Secrets (we loved the Preferred Club at the Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay on a recent visit), Dreams and the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara, which are adults-only and family-friendly, respectively.
Bahia Principe’s properties should slot in right below those brands, based on our experiences with its resorts; it should also help Hyatt with its presence among European travelers.
The best of the bunch is undoubtedly the Cayo Levantado resort, which is practically brand new after a big upgrade project. Prices for the Cayo Levantado resort start at about $658 per night, all-inclusive, according to Google.
For Bahia Principe’s Grand Jamaica resort, by comparison, has rooms for about $267 per night right now.
