Tradewind Just Launched New Flights to Two Beach-Filled Islands in The Bahamas
Tiny uncrowded cays. Stunning white-sand beaches. Charming, historic downtowns. From the island-hopping paradise of Abaco to the postcard-perfect cottages and villas of Harbour Island, they’re two of the most sought-after corners of The Bahamas.
But historically, they haven’t been quite so easy to get to. That’s where Tradewind Aviation comes in. The luxury airline has been flying for years to top destinations in the northeastern Caribbean out of its hub in San Juan, with a focus on just these kind of remote, harder-to-reach luxury hotspots like St Barth, Anguilla and Virgin Gorda.
And now thanks to Tradewind’s new base in Palm Beach, it’s now connecting South Florida travelers with both Marsh Harbour, Abaco and North Eleuthera International Airport, the latter being the gateway to Harbour Island (just a short five-minute ferry ride from just nearby the airport).
Tradewind has officially kicked off both routes to The Bahamas, with both flights operating Thursday-Monday. It’s the luxury experience we’ve always enjoyed when flying on Tradewind: the state-of-the-art Pilatus planes, the free snacks and drinks, the seamless private check-in, the impressive service.
The two routes will run for the peak season, with the schedule running through May 26,2025, according to the airline.
What about prices? For reference, you can fly roundtrip from Palm Beach to North Eleuthera for about $707.83. That’s only a few hundred dollars more than a Miami-North Eleuthera flight — and you’re effectively flying private and landing in the FBO (eliminating the sometimes-challenging experience in the North Eleuthera commercial airport) — a rather good value.
Are you planning a getaway to either of these luxury getaways?
If it’s Harbour Island, we’ve stayed at the top resorts on the island and are rather partial to The Dunmore, the legendary jet-set getaway perched right above the island’s signature Pink Sand Beach. Rooms from $2,018 per night. If you’re looking to stay on Eleuthera, lately the Governor’s Harbour area has been heating up (about one hour from the airport), with some lovely boutique options like the Pineapple Fields hotel. Rooms from $421.
What about Abaco? While Marsh Harbour is the gateway to the islands, enjoying Abaco is all about getting out to the little islands in the archipelago. Our favorite? Green Turtle Cay, home to the endlessly lovely Bluff House, an eight-room jewel with a marvelous beach and beach bar. It’s an authentic, unforgettable Out Island experience. Rooms starting at $275.
