This Dominican Republic City Has a New Waterfront Boulevard
It’s one of the signatures of a great Spanish Caribbean town, the Malecon, that vibrant, always-bustling waterfront boulevard that is the seaside town square of downtowns from Havana to Santo Domingo.
Now, you can add another one to the pantheon: San Pedro Macoris, which just inaugurated its completely remodeled malecon.
The new-look thoroughfare was inaugurated by Dominica Republic President Luis Abinder and Tourism Minister David Collado this week, accompanied by a series of art installations and celebrations.
It’s been al long time coming for the city, with the new project including a linear park with 60,000 square meters of space and 12,000 square meters of sidewalks.
That’s along with a pair of large recreational areas, a business area, bathroom facilities, a police facility and a plaza with sculptures featuring famous folkloric figures.
There’s also everything from an outdoor gym to a children’s play area.
