Tourism Corporation Bonaire has named a new interim director following the departure of outgoing CEO Miles Mercera, Caribbean Journal has learned.
TCB has tapped Elesiër “Ely” Angel to the role, which is officially Interim Statutory Director, effective Jan. 1.
Angel worked closely with Mercera during his term in the office, helping lead the island’s tourism industry to new heights, from record-breaking arrival numbers to the first-ever JetBlue flight to the island and exciting new events like Bonaire Rum Week.
Angel has worked with TCB since 2021.
“With the appointment of Elesiër as interim statutory director, we affirm our commitment to a diligent selection process that aligns with the principles of corporate governance. The board has full confidence in Elesiër’s leadership and vision, and we are excited to support her in driving the continued success of TCB,” the organization said in a statement.
Mercera first joined the organization as CEO in 2021, helping usher in a period of renaissance for the organization.
“It has been an honor to lead Tourism Corporation Bonaire and work alongside such a talented team over the past four years. I am incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together and the strong foundation we’ve built for Bonaire’s tourism industry,” Mercera said in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal. “I have had the privilege of seeing Elesiër Angel grow within the organization, witnessing her passion for the team, the TCB, and Bonaire’s tourism industry. Ely’s deep understanding of Bonaire’s unique identity, her innovative approach, and her commitment to sustainable tourism make her the perfect leader for this next chapter. I wish her and the TCB team continued success as they drive Bonaire’s tourism to even greater heights.”
