JetBlue Says It’s Transitioning Its Tulum Flights From Year-Round to Seasonal
Tulum has been one of the region’s bright spots in recent years, transforming from a boho-hip getaway to a tourism powerhouse. This year, the Mexican Caribbean destination opened its first international airport to much fanfare and new service from just about every major airline.
Now, a major airline is slowing things down in Tulum. JetBlue has announced it will be transitioning its daily nonstop service between New York JFK and Tulum to seasonal-only, not year-round.
A spokesperson for JetBlue told Caribbean Journal the purpose of the move was to “support growth in high-performing regions and to better align with heightened winter travel demand.”
The move means New York-Tulum flights will be suspended from April 30, 2025 to October 25, 2025.
“JetBlue is constantly evaluating our routes to best serve our customers, return our airline to profitability and improve our reliability,” the company told us.
Tulum’s airport hasn’t released numbers on how all of those new US flights have been preforming. But nearby Cancun has been seeing slowing growth in the second half of this year, so it’s something to keep an eye on. The thought had been that Tulum’s growth had been siphoning off visitors from Cancun. Now, it may be that Tulum is slowing down as well.
