Avelo Just Launched New Routes to Two Caribbean Destinations: Montego Bay and Cancun
They’re two of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean: Montego Bay, Jamaica and Cancun. In the post-pandemic period, they’re also two of the hottest places to visit in the hemisphere, both seeing a strong tourism renaissance in the last three years or so.
And now Cancun and Montego Bay have another connection from an increasingly important United States source market: Connecticut, which has quietly been seeing a boost in airlift from several carriers, including low-cost airline Avelo.
The company, which was already flying between Connecticut and Puerto Rico, has kicked off its first international service with new routes from Hartford to both Mobay and Cancun.
The new Cancun service is operating two times per week, with nonstop flights on Wednesday and Saturday. Hartford-Montego Bay flights are operating once every week on Saturdays, with both routes operated on Boeing 737 aircraft.
Last month, Avelo actually doubled its service between another Connecticut airport, New Haven’s Tweed, and Puerto Rico, with what are now four flights every week.
More broadly, the New England market, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, has seen a wave of new routes of late, from JetBlue’s new service between Providence and Puerto Rico to Boston-Grenada flights.
So what will you pay for these new flights?
For a Cancun trip booked this month, you’re looking at a price of around $281.53 roundtrip.
For Montego Bay, the price is identical: $281.53 (choosing Avelo’s “economy” seats on both legs.
What about where to stay? In Cancun, you could try the new AVA Cancun, which has rooms right now at around $544 per night.
If you’re willing to venture a bit beyond Cancun proper, we’ve always loved staying at the Grand Residences Riviera Cancun, in large part thanks to some of the best service we’ve received anywhere in the wider Caribbean. (rooms from $623).
In Montego Bay, there’s one clear best place to stay: the legendary Half Moon, including its new, 57-room Eclipse at Half Moon luxury enclave. Rooms from $550.
