It’s one of the fastest-growing niches in the travel industry: wellness, that large umbrella that includes everything from spa treatments to fitness, health food to sustainability.
And now one of the Caribbean’s most popular destinations is making wellness a significant priority, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The island of Jamaica has its sights set on becoming a global leader in the health and wellness tourism space, according to Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
“Today’s travellers seek more than leisure; they are searching for experiences that enhance their physical, mental, and emotional well-being,” Bartlett said this week. “Jamaica is uniquely positioned to meet this growing demand.”
A major part of that push will be anchored in the island’s natural resources, Bartlett said.
Jamaica has more than 100 rivers, 700 miles of coastline and mountains as high as 7,000 feet, he said.
“This isn’t just about statistics; it’s about creating a sustainable future for our communities,” he said.
The push will focus on six pillars: personalized wellness experiences, technology integration, nature-based health tourism, luxury medical tourism, sustainable wellness practices, and cultural immersion.
